[balloon-makers] Update

Hello to All,

Kelley - I have not ever skydived. I'm not sure I could make myself jump out of an airplane (or balloon!) into free-fall. I do agree with your knees being awesome shock absorbers. I"ve been looking through the site that Mark linked to: http://www.bigairparagliding.com/supair.htm and found a rig I like. It's about 2/3 down the page, its the "New 1998 Mousse-Bag" for $125. Seems just like what a ballonist would need in a hopper! It looks like I'd be able to hang the tank from the burner ring and secure it to the back of the harness. Not exactly sure about this but it seems like a good idea. Also, Mark, the padding in a trash-can basket would be an excellent idea! I'm sure I'll make it mandatory for my rig!

Mike, I remember a link someone posted a while back to Schaefer Waste-Recycling and got an info packet from them, but there is no information on how to get one of their bins. I suppose a simple call to Schaefer might help this...

Don - good idea about the fule tank mounts.. I'll look into it more. Rock climbers/paragliders harness sounds nifty too. Thanks Don and Dave.

Adam - I tried the link but nothing came up. I searched the Rubbermaid site as well but couldn't find anything similar to yours. I'll keep looking though. I'll most likely end up installing bi-directional rotary vents like you said. I dont have the know-how/knowledge to build a swivling bottom end.

So again a big thanks to everyone for helping me out and answeing my questions. I'll keep you updated.

Van Orman had nice air bags on his Gordon Bennett basket which evolved into
the modern day life raft and even the Zodiac speed boats.

Mark,

Talk to Alan Blount, he designed something very close to what you are
describing back in the mid-80's, after being involved in a mid-air incident
that lead to him riding a streamer into the ground. It also was part of
what led to Barnes developing the blount window in parachutes, and a very
unique bit of artwork on his subsequent parachutes.
