thickness vs height and other such stuff for the word "Experimental".
Aircraft Spruce (and presumably other folks) sell stencils
with your N-number done to the spec.  Their pretty cheap

a placard or two inside the cabin as well as a data plate.
The EAA sells a kit for $20 ($13 for members) that has all of
this stuff, copies of the necessary forms, and a very handy
booklet that lays out the registration/certification process
step-by-step. It's airplane oriented but still worth every penny.

A KEY POINT BELOW !!!! PAY ATTENTION !!!! --
(Nobody mentioned the following to me and I almost got badly hosed.)

The registration process is separate from the certification process.
Perversely, you need to have your registration processing FINISHED
via the Oklahoma City FAA office and have your completed
registration card in hand BEFORE you can even start the
airworthiness certification process.  Registration can take
weeks/months depending upon the processing backlog.  So don't
wait until the last minute.  Registrations are good for a year
(I think) so start early.  To make the timing problem worse,
the registration form is a multi-part NCR-paper form and so
can not be downloaded via the 'net.  You have to get it from
your MIDO, the Oklahoma City FAA office, or the EAA packet above.

registration number is displayed on limited, restricted or light- 
sport category aircraft or experimental or provisionally  
certificated aircraft, the operator must also display on that  
aircraft near each entrance to the cabin, cockpit, or pilot  
station, in letters not less than 2 inches nor more than 6 inches  
high, the words “limited,” “restricted,” “light-sport,”  
“experimental,” or “provisional,” as applicable.

The tetra-hopper is coming along nicely and I have reached the  
point where I need some help.




As we all know, experimental catagory aircraft need to say  
"Experimental" on them.  At one point I read where and how the  
lettering needed to be affixed to the aircraft, but I can't seem to  
locate it just now.




Can anyone steer me toward the rules regarding the size and  
placement of the lettering?
