Subject: [balloon-makers] LSA weight increase for LTA

List,

The
EAA has notified the membership in their latest online newsletter the weight
limits for LSA LTA has been increased.

"An
FAA direct final rule issued April 9 solves two lingering light-sport aircraft
(LSA) certification issues that EAA has been working to fix since the original
Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) Rule issued in September 2004. The action allows
special-LSA certification of amphibious aircraft with a retractable landing
gear, plus increases the maximum takeoff weight for lighter-than-air LSA from
660 lbs. to 1,320 lbs."

Thanks
to all who worked on behalf of the increase. Many, both near and far, worked to
further this goal, some with methodical, detailed analysis and others with
imprompt meetings in the hall way or on the tarmac. Now there is a
practical weight limit for balloon manufactures who want to produce LSA-LTA
aircraft and kits.

Fly
safe,

Curtis
