Paul,
On my Singer 212w140's, there are two hex nuts underneath the bobbin
case which secure it to the hook shaft. It is possible to loosen the
two hex nuts and tap down on the top of the bobbin case to lower it
further onto the hook shaft.
In the 112, the hook shaft and hook assembly are one piece, meaning
you can't raise or lower the bobbin case/hook assembly independently
of the shaft. So, I don't know why I just explained how to do it on a
212.
Since I haven't worked on a 112 in a very long time, the closest I can
guess is that your solution lies within the "T" screws in Figure 24,
Page 21 of the manual:

Loosen those two set screws and try tapping down on the top of the
bobbin case (being careful not to rotate the hook out of timing). If
the whole thing moves downward, that's probably your solution. You
will probably also have to concurrently adjust the height of the
needle bar along with both the hook heights.
Brute Force Solution: If it is not possible to lower your hook(s), and
the machine sews normally other than the cover plate thread clearance,
Dremel away the bottom face of the cover plate and polish it smooth.
You might get your clearance that way.
Soft Landings,
