[Balloon-makers] experimental operations in Canada

I've been asked by a prospective client about bringing
my hot air blimp to an event in Canada next year.

Two initial questions:
1) How does the CAA generally react to US home-built experimental  
aircraft?
In particular, the customer will want me to fly near a big city.

2) They want to pay me. (That's nice.) In the US getting
paid to fly is sort of a gray area of the rules.  One definitely can not
"carry persons or cargo for compensation or hire" but flying
around solo isn't explicitly prohibited.  Are things similarly
gray in Canada or is the rule more clear?
